Reading the Bills |
||||||||||
I believe that every member elected to Congress should have the opportunity to read, consider, debate and amend every bill that comes before Congress. You should have that opportunity also, so that you may contact your representatives and let them know how you feel about specific bills before they come up for a vote. No member of Congress should vote for a bill that they have not read in its entirety. If elected, I will read each bill in its entirety before voting Yes. Barack Obama pledged that if he were elected he wouldn’t push bills that hadn’t been made available for public debate for at least 5 days. That hasn’t been happening, and key pieces of legislation, hundreds of pages long are being pushed through that were presented just hours before the vote. This is not the way Congress should work. Congress is broken, and needs to be fixed. I intend to do my part to restore your faith not only in the process, but in fighting to regain a Congress that follows the Constitution. If a member of Congress has not had the opportunity to read the entire bill, much less give it proper consideration, then the vote should be no. These bills could be seriously damaging to your rights and freedoms. Why are they getting any Yes votes with this kind of process?
