The Rule of Law

I believe in the rule of law. The foundation of the law in this country is the United States Constitution. We shouldn’t ignore it when it’s convenient. There is a process for amending it if necessary, but frankly, I like it just the way it is. It contains a brilliant system of checks and balances, with separated and enumerated powers. And most importantly, the Constitution limits the power of the Federal Government, rightly leaving most powers to the States and to the People.

If elected to Congress I will take very seriously my oath to protect and defend the Constitution. This means that every bill that passes Congress needs to follow the Constitution. I support making it law that Congress must identify within the Constitution where they are expressly given the authority to pass each and every piece of legislation.
